Aristocratic style

What does aristocratic style look like? A little bit elegant, a little bit seductive and a little bit dramatic. But what is typical of it is, as the name suggests, a certain grandeur, majesty – and luxury. It’s not as uptight as the elegant style, allowing for more cleavage, slits, bold, expensive jewelry, and different colors, too. The neutral colors of elegant are gray, black, navy blue and white. For aristocratic style, the neutrals are gold, beige, pink, camel brown and white. Why? They are warm, rich, lush colors.

Of course I don’t mean any boring pink or beige, no, it’s rose gold, ivory, champagne. Just the kind of colors you find in the background behind models in luxury brand catalogs. That’s no coincidence – luxury brands target this exact style and match this exact style. It’s the style of the rich (or those who want to look rich). One of its versions can also be posh or preppy style.

Personality

Aristocratic women have no problem with attention. They don’t seek it out directly, nor do they try to hide from it. They just know they stand out, the way the nobility stood out in their expensive gowns against the rest of the city. It has to be said, they’re a bit (maybe more than a bit) snobby.

They like expensive things, aspire to high status, behave according to etiquette, and know what is prim and proper. They don’t like to be seen unkempt and may look down on those who don’t have the same manners, education and don’t surround themselves with material things. They act cold to them – generally to strangers. However, they are very kind, friendly and generous to people “on their level” and friends.

Of course, not all aristocratic women are like that. Some are sympathetic to the “less fortunate”, perhaps because they come from poor backgrounds (but they don’t like to admit it), but they can be altruistic and kind to everyone without distinction. However, they have certain class and will not allow anyone to mistreat them and take advantage of their kindness.

They expect gentlemanly behaviour from men (or at least the ability to be a man, make money and take care of a family), get along well with types who share their values and will take them on vacations and spend money on an apartment and car they can be proud of in front of their friends. Some would condemn this as materialism, but that’s just the way they are. They just won’t be happy on a farm without running water and nice clothes.

Appearance

Most often they wear dresses or pencil skirts and blouses, with heels, but they can also wear trousers – white, beige, but also in bolder colors. They need beautiful, heavy jewellery – even for casual wear. Hats or gloves will not go unused, fur suits them. It often looks over the top on other women, but it works for them. Russian women are said to be always well-groomed, over-dressed, a stereotype that describes specifically aristocratic women. Hair always styled, makeup, nice shoes, … I even once saw a Russian part-time worker in a store who was aristocratic at first sight. She was sitting behind the cash register, but she had a beautiful, soft sweater and sparkly earrings. That’s something you don’t see everyday in this kind of job.
